Welcome!
My name is Michael Jay Herman and I'm a 21 year old graphic designer with a passion to turn ideas into expressive designs. I have have experience across Adobe programs, figma, and CSS coding. It has always been a dream of mine to become a designer and now that I am a part of this line of work, I am ready to make an impact!
I plan on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion during my time as a designer in the Graphic Design program art the University of Arkansas by making art that represents me. When I am making a design, I am always conscious of how others will interpret it.  I was raised in southern Arkansas by a Black single mother, who taught me that I would have to work harder to be perceived in the same way others may.
As an artist of color I would like for people to see how much effort I put in my image. I want people to understand that being different is not something to be ashamed of but something to be proud of. Something that you should be able to show to the world and represent confidence in your identity to others that may not have it. I want to make art that people of different backgrounds can feel comforted by, art that people like us can create that not only makes us feel represented but also included.
